Bronchitis (bron KI tis) is a condition in which the bronchial tubes become inflamed. Both principal kinds of bronchitis are acute (short term) and chronic (continuing). Lung irritants or illnesses cause acute bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis is an on-going, serious ailment. Chronic bronchitis is a serious, long term medical condition.
Acute Bronchitis is an Infection of the Bronchial (Say: "Brawn-Kee-Ull") Tree
The bronchial tree consists of the tubes that carry air into your lungs. When these tubes get infected, they swell and mucus (thick fluid) types inside them. Acute bronchitis is bronchitis that continues a short time (several weeks or less), while chronic bronchitis is bronchitis which is long lasting or recurring (and is usually caused by continuous irritation of the bronchial tree, like from smoking).
Acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) contain colds, influenza and diseases of the throat, nose or sinuses. Bigger volume nasal washes and saline nose spray have grown to be very popular as one of several treatment alternatives for URTIs, and they are shown to have some effectiveness for following nasal operation and chronic sinusitis. This is a well conducted systematic review and the decision seems reputable. See all (14) Summaries for consumersCochrane authors reviewed the available evidence from randomised controlled trials on the utilization of antibiotics for adults with acute laryngitis. Acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) contain colds, flu and infections of the throat, nose or sinuses. This review found no evidence for or against the utilization of fluids that were increased in acute respiratory infections.

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from. Bronchitis may be either acute or long-term. Chronic bronchitis, a more severe condition, is a persistent irritation or inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, often as a result of smoking. Chronic bronchitis is one of the conditions contained in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Most Individuals With Chronic Bronchitis Have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Tobacco smoking is the most common cause, with numerous other factors for example genetics and air pollution and a smaller role playing. Symptoms of chronic bronchitis may include wheezing and shortness of breath, especially upon exertion and low oxygen saturations. Smoking cigarettes or other kinds of tobacco cause most cases of chronic bronchitis. Also, continual inhalation of air pollution or irritating fumes or dust from hazardous exposures in vocations such as grain handling, coal mining, textile production, livestock farming, and metal moulding may also be a risk factor for the development of chronic bronchitis. Unlike other common obstructive disorders like asthma or emphysema, bronchitis seldom causes a high residual volume (the volume of air remaining in the lungs after a maximal exhalation effort).

Bronchitis is a Typical Infection Causing Irritation and Inflammation
You're at risk of developing more acute lung diseases along with heart problems and illnesses, so you should be monitored by a doctor if you suffer with chronic bronchitis. Acute bronchitis is generally due to lung diseases, 90% of which are viral in origin. Recurrent episodes of acute bronchitis, which irritate and weaken bronchial airways can result in chronic bronchitis.
The study - led by Cardiff University in the UK - shows for the first time that the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) plays a key role in causing the airway disease. Daniela Riccardi, principal investigator and a professor in Cardiff's School of Biosciences, describes their findings as "very exciting," because for the first time they've linked airway inflammation - which can be activated for example by cigarette smoke and car fumes - with airway twitchiness. She adds: "Our paper shows how these triggers release compounds that activate CaSR in airway tissue and drive asthma symptoms like airway twitchiness, inflammation, and narrowing.
Prof. Riccardi concludes: The researchers believe their findings about the purpose of CaSR in airway tissue could have significant consequences for other respiratory illnesses such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis. The researchers, from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, believe their findings will lead to treatments for a range of disorders including asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis and even certain cancers.
